After graduating from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Lee continued his education at the university's School of Medicine as a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education, from which he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. He began his post-graduate training with an internship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine’s Department of Medicine, followed by a residency with the Mayo Clinic Department of Ophthalmology. He completed his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he received the Abe Meyer Memorial Fellow Award.

Dr. Lee is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is licensed in the states of California, Maryland and Virginia and in the District of Columbia. Prior to joining The Retina Group of Washington, he spent three years with the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in Washington, D.C.

Throughout his medical career, Dr. Lee has participated in numerous research projects. He was an investigator in clinical trials including the Early Age-Related Macular Degeneration Lesion Study, Dexamethasone Injections in the Treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema and the Effects of Fenretinide on the Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration. He has also co-authored many articles for peer-reviewed publications such as Archives of Ophthalmology, Eye and Seminars in Ophthalmology and has presented his research at several national meetings.
